Fledgling hedgehogs, you are about to embark on the "Quest for Cells."

Activities: You will work in groups of three for this activity. All members will share responsibility for the projects and keeping a journal of the results. You will use the Digital Blue microscope to view and record slide images of cork, onion skin, and cheek cells you've prepared.

Cork Cell: View a thin slice of cork at 10X, 60X, and 200X through the digital microscope. Snap an image of the example that best illustrates the cell structure.

Onion Skin: View a thin slice of onion skin at 10X, 60X, and 200X through the digital microscope. Snap an image of the example that best illustrates the cell structure with no stain, red stain, blue stain.



Cheek Cells: Prepare the slide with blue coloring. View the slide at 10X, 60X, and 200X through the digital microscope. Snap an image of the example that best illustrates the cell structure.

Pond Water: A drop or two of pond water conains many living things. These links contains videos of different organisms you may find in a pond warter sample. Please take a minute to look at them.

Take a pond water sample and prepare a slide according to your teacher's directions

Multimedia Presentation: You will use your captured images to create either a PowerPoint presentation or a printed report. Label the "organelles" or Chloroplasts that appear in your images. Use text boxes and the "arrows" from the drawing tools to point out these features. Examples would be the nucleus, cell wall, etc. One paragraph, or PowerPoint slide must detail what you have learned during this project.
